I
came into Oculoplastic surgery from a background of art history
and medicine and have long admired anatomical perfection from
both perspectives. I first trained at Columbia University
in ophthalmology, in which I am board-certified and then completed
a prestigious fellowship in Oculoplastic surgery at the world-renowned
Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. I am also a member of the
American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and teach at Columbia
University.
For me there is
no greater pleasure than to enhance and rejuvenate the human
face and restore confidence and self-esteem to a patient who
feels that his or her features no longer reflect the younger
nature inside. Oculoplastic surgery focuses on the area around
the eyes, meaning the eyelids, the forehead above and mid-face
below. These areas are intricately connected and are best
rejuvenated in concert. An Oculoplastic Surgeon, as opposed
to a Plastic Surgeon, is uniquely qualified to diagnose problems
and perform surgery in these areas to avoid the pitfalls of
over correction and an unnatural look.
The outcome is
a natural, younger appearance, which makes the patient look
as young as they feel. The tools available depend on the individual
area or problem to be enhanced and include the use of laser
eyelid surgery, endoscopic and conventional forehead and mid-facelift
surgery, botulinum toxin injections and skin laser resurfacing,
which may be used separately or in combination.
